About the speaker: Alberto Gola is a senior researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) in Trento, working in the Microsystems Technology group on the development of silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) and advanced solid‑state photodetectors. He has played a central role in the design and optimization of FBK’s SiPM technologies for applications in high‑energy physics, medical imaging, and photon‑counting instrumentation.
He earned his PhD in Information and Communication Technologies from the University of Trento, focusing on the characterization and modeling of SiPM devices. His work includes contributions to detector systems for experiments such as DarkSide and nEXO, and he has co‑authored numerous publications on SiPM design, performance, and applications.

Title: What is RISC-V and why is the BSC working on it?

Abstract: The RISC-V opens standard is becoming one of the key levers to reduce external dependencies of foreign semiconductor IP and support European innovation and Industry in this area. In this talk we will revisit the concept of RISC-V and why it is important . We will provide also a quick overview of the BSC activity involving RISC-V and the role of MicroNanoSpain.
About the speaker: Rafael Goma got the title of “Ingeniero de Telecomunicacion, especialidad electronica” on February 22nd, 1985 from UPC . His engineering thesis "Human-Machine Oral Communication, Playful Application" won the third edition of “Jose Bertan Marques” prize. Rafael got the title “Licenciado en Informatica” on December 7th, 1990, from UPC.
From 1984 to 1986 Rafael worked for Sainco Trafico SA developing digital systems for the automation of public transportation systems. From 1986 to 1990 worked for Fujitsu developing hardware and software for high-speed computer networks. From 1990-2008 worked for Hewlett Packard at the R&D department at Sant Cugat. With distinct roles untill leading the department with more than 200 engineers. From 2009 to 2023, Rafael had been involved on the start-up ecosystem, founding and managing several technology-based companies. On March 2023 Rafael joined BSC as a senior investigator, currently working in the High Performance Architecture research area managing Industrial and Institutional relationships.
