Thank you all so much for making the Astronomers for Planet Earth Symposium 2022 such a resounding success!

Astronomers for Planet Earth (A4E) is an international grass-roots movement of astronomy scientists, educators, students, and amateurs working to address the climate crisis from an astronomical perspective. This was a fully virtual symposium, to provide a perspective on sustainability from experts in the field as well as offer a platform for discussion regarding this extremely important topic. The symposium covers half days from Monday, 28 November, through Friday, 2 December, covering all time zones.

We had nearly 600 registered participants from all over the world, with live audiences of up to 150 people for Zoom streams and discussions, and nearly 3500 combined views on the YouTube videos (so far). These results clearly show that sustainability is of key interest and concern to our community.

You can find the pre-recorded talks, opening/closing sessions, and the panel discussion with large astronomy consortia on our YouTube channel. We have sorted them into playlists, for your convenience:

Our goal is to grow and strengthen the A4E community and define concrete actions and goals for the next year -- so we need you! All people related to astronomy and interested in sustainability are warmly invited to register for this event and take part in the process. We need everyone that is willing to step up and take action for a more sustainable future.

What to expect:

• On Monday and Friday, we will have a global live plenary opening and closing session via zoom, see timetable. 

• At any time, watch recorded talks and contributions from experts in the field on these topics:
  1. The status of sustainability in astronomy
  2. Taking action and getting active with A4E
  3. The future of astronomy meetings
  4. Teaching sustainability in and with astronomy 

• Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we have two session for Q&A and discussion on each topic held in Gathertown. Session A should be at a convenient time for people connecting from Oceania/Asia and Session B for North/South America. Folks connecting from Europe/Africa are welcome to attend either or both.

• On Tuesday we are going to host a panel discussion on sustainability amongst representatives of large astronomical consortia, see here. 
   
• Four workshops on special topics individually organized by participants, see program.

Are you involved in astronomy education or outreach and looking for new ways to talk about the unique perspective of astronomy on our planet? We are all astronomy educators who love to bring an astronomical perspective to our view of Earth, emphasize that there is no Planet B, and empower Earthlings to take care of our one and only home. We have found some interesting resources and activities that work well, but we are always looking for new ideas. If you’d like to share with us, or you’re interested in hearing what others are doing, please join our workshop. We will begin by sharing our own favorite resources and activities, and there will be plenty of time for other participants to discuss and share their own favorite resources. We are working to compile these on the A4E website, too, and will go over how to navigate the resources we’ve already posted.

Just like the night sky, there are natural places in the world that simply leave us in an awe. Breathtaking sceneries that inspire us and motivate us to fight for our planet Earth. We all know such a place don’t we? I am proposing to create trails to such places in different locations on Earth and link these trails to Astronomy and the Universe, add an action for Earth Experience for the visitor and so create an AstroEarth Trail. Different AstroEarth Trails could comunicate with each other and promote one another and collaborate in doing events such as a treasure hunts or exhibitions. To what purpose? To remind us what we are fighting for, to deepen our connection with and our knowledge about Nature, to integrate Nature in our lives, to satisfy our sense of exploration, to enable us to act our Nature inspired emotions and most important of all to take action for Planet Earth.
The aim of this workshop is to establish an international collaboration that creates, sustains and internationally promotes AstroEarth Trails. This international team will work together towards a collection of AstroEarth Trails. At the workshops we would like to brainstorm along with the participants on a good selection of such Natural locations, a list of possible actions for Earth experiences and possible astro-stories that allow integrating Nature and Universe in a complete outdoor experience. In this workshop we would like to put together the basis of the AstroEarth Trails project and explore creatively all the possibilities of bringing Nature and the Universe closer to people everywhere.

The aim of this workshop is to have a conversation about the problems and solutions for sustainability and climate change in the context of India. We invite discussions from members of both the astronomy and space science disciplines, since these are both relatively small communities in India, yet they share a common mindset of working together on global problems. The major talking points include, but are not limited to

1. How are the challenges concerning climate change different for developing countries like India compared to the West? What are the potential solutions for these different challenges?

2. How can astronomy and space sciences be used to promote climate action in India?
